As part of its work with the Friends network, FGF supports the organization of activities implemented across their organizations with a view of leveraging on their respective strategies and synergies to enhance advocacy efforts across their geographies.
In 2021, the Friends network developed a virtual site visit video that was tailored to each of their geographies and audiences.
In the lead up to the 7th replenishment, the Friends network organized a series of webinars focusing on the role of the Global Fund in the Covid-19 era, gathering experts and policy-makers about the unique role played by the Global Fund in this context, and the support to communities and health systems in the countries where it invests.
In addition to the events that they organize as part of their individual advocacy roadmaps, FGF also supports events jointly organised by Friends Europe, Friends Japan and Friends U.S. as part of their collaborative high-level political advocacy efforts.
On 18 September 2022, a day before the 7th Replenishment, Friends Europe, Friends Japan and Friends U.S. organized an event in New York entitled “The Global Fund’s reach in fragile, crisis settings: Defeating HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria everywhere”.
The event aimed exploring the Global Fund’s unique ability to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in unstable or conflict settings—amid disease outbreaks, war, political instability, environmental emergencies and other crises—and, thanks to its unique partnership model, reach the most vulnerable, remote and fragile population groups. Speakers included Dr. Bintou Dembele (Mali), Andriy Klepikov, executive director of the Alliance for Public Health (Ukraine), and Niluka Perera, Global Fund Advocates Network Asia-Pacific (Sri Lanka), Mark E. Edington, Head of the Grant Management Division of the Global Fund, as well as Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Hubert Julien-Laferriere (Member of the French Parliament and Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly), Dr Satoshi Ezoe, Director, Global Health Policy Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan.
